Hi Newstead, For your orange belt grading, you`ll be expected to know the first two katas. You won`t have to worry about getting Saifa right until you get to the green belt grading - and even then, the RM who does the gradings will only be looking at the basic pattern.
Maybe a good idea would be to ask your instructor to go through Saifa with you on a one-to-one basis - that`s what I did before my Green belt grading.

Newstead,

There are a few online resoures (including video) of this great kata. However, they will all be very different than what is taught in GKR.

My advice, learn the kata you have been taught. These are great kata and will take a long time to 'get right'.

As for learning saifa, your sensei will teach you in good time. When you are ready, you may want to learn how this kata is 'really' performed (ie not the way you are taught in GKR).

I found the unofficial gkr website helpful with the katas. It has more information on it than the sheet my sensei gave me, and it has charts with the footwork on it (at least I knew which direction my feet were supposed to be pointing) as well as a more detailed description of what I was supposed to be doing. And if you look around the rest of the site there's graphics showing how to do most of the techniques.

Hi. I love kata, especially the flowing ones like Saifa, even the way GKR performs it.
The best way to get help with learning Saifa is from your instructor and to understand the principles of movement within GKR's first two kata. If you only want to learn the pattern for now, maybe you could ask an orange belt (or above) if they would like to practice with you and show you the pattern? It would be a good help for them as well maybe.
