I had a browse of the website finally, and saw no way for students to actually talk with each other online. Does the site know of this forum, and have they asked if they could affiliate in anyway? It just seems strange that with the well known site, they don't have a way for students from other regions to talk and meet.
Matt
They do know of us - I got an email asking for a link to be put up.
Havent received any request, but would politely decline as I'm sure it would be better to remain independant. I believe an official forum would be heavily moderated, but hope I am wrong.
Brodius
I just meant that they might have directed viewers of the site to this forum, without having anything more to do it with it. The forum is great how it is, and there influence wouldn't make it any better anyway.
Matt
Well they were going to reciprocate the link, as is common net courtesy rolleyes.2.gif

In my "the world according to Jules" view of things; I would think that since they wouldn't be contacting you in regards to the content of their site, they would/should have little to do with the operations here.....Afterall it is Your site..your money/time and attention....But it would make for a great way to for people to get more information and interact with others involved in GKR.

That being said...more traffic would mean that there would need to be more attention/time put in here and you'd need to determine if that is a responsibility you're willing to take on.

I do undertand your concern for imposed censorship, as well as "losing control" of your community in some way.... but I do think that if this is the direction you would want to take, that an agreement or contract could be written up and put into place.... smile.gif

....that ends my early morning ramblings wink.gif

Hey nice to see you out of "forum related" biggrin.gif
I think Brodius has an excellent point in that there needs to be an online forum for people to communicate. I really dont think the club has any concept of what the net can do for it...as I said any email to a Perth RM gets printed out in Sydney and faxed through......ye gods how hard is it to give each RM their own email address?? Hell anyone want a gkr.net.au one?? I got unlimited!!! If I can do it in this pissy environment what can they do with a design crew and massive exposure. If they set up an official forum and people talked...well what are they scared of?

(btw - I really dont think of it as MY site...I like to think of it as everyones...... oh gods did I just say that?? pass me more pain killers....yes...the ones in the bottle marked "Shiraz" - thank you wink.gif )

Goyle passes matt a barrel of vino coffeetime.gif

Just stick a medical/prescription label on the front, and no one will ever know the difference....

This forum is great, but if there was a world wide official one, it might let people from one region find each other, instead of having to look around on all these "UNOFFICIAL" sites...

That independant forums / websites will be better than their efforts? blink.gif

Well so far they are!
every single unofficial site eclipses the main one. Even little dojo sites have more info than the long awaited real deal.
Tom
But with alot of things that GKR does, it`s too little, too late. I think if GKR could get its collective hydra-like heads together they could produce something really impressive.
Maybe they realise they`re not going to produce anything as good as the unofficial sites.......

And how I would love to see an official GKR forum........ Garanteed you`re not going to get anything as scathing and vitriolic as you`d find on here!

Ah, but they would, and that's precicely the reason that there will never be an official forum. ph34r.gif

If they did you'd probably have to provide so much personal info that most people would not register. Isn't part of the reason for being at least semi-anonymous so that opinions can be freely expressed?

Why would the GKR site do any more than skirt the basics if good willing students are willing to do better for free? Its the usualy scheme of things that shores up the club, after all...

But, it's just an easier way for GKR Karateka to get to this board, if the official site linked to here. I figure everyone who trains would have had the url drummed into their heads at training classes or something, so there may be a large visiting number there just waiting to jump aboard(I'm not sure if I meant that as a pun).

Obviously you'd make sure you guys kept control of the board if the official site ever became interested.
Brodius
Just another thing, does anybody else think that those header images on the main page reek with corniness? I can't decide if they're intentionally trying to make people laugh or not. Like, say, the cliche stances in the sunset images.
Susan
i like the image with the fat gut...

now that's selling power...

bet that makes people want to sign up
"mummy, i want to train karate so i can look like him"

LOL!!!!!!!

Talking about bad pictures of our style's founder, why does he look so pissed off in 90% of the photographs taken? Especially in the latest shimbun, there are lots of pictures in which you could imagine a knobbly pineapple has been placed between his buttocks... tongue.gif

Because hes a very very very unwell man?

Maybe it is his scary face? unsure.gif

I'm not saying anything bad about Robert sullivan. I was just commenting that he never looks like he's having fun, in any of the pictures I've seen... dunno.gif

btw, Rancer, i'm sure I would have the "pineapple stuck in my colon" look if I had gone through cancer, etc. I'm just supprised there aren't any posed photos where he is looking more comfortable tongue.gif
Wanderer
This is so true. Even photos Ive seen of him with students he never seems to be happy.
markp
Well, they say money doesn't bring happiness. I just wish I had the chance to prove that statement! sad.gif
Brodius
Maybe he's just trying to look tough or something.
