What stance is that in hangetsu? It's like a shika dachi but with the knees caved in, i'd be intrested to know what its for and called and why its not just a shika dachi
Cheers

Actually its more like Sanchin Dachi.
The knees shouldnt be caved in, but forwards in response to tensing of the hamstrings. much the same way the knees dont cave in in sanchin.

It's hangetsu dachi, means 'half-moon stance'.

Is that the what? Stance? Seisan has sanchin dachi. Although hangetsu dachi is sort of an elongated sanchin dachi.

To quote my instructor:
"Hangetsu dachi is one of the least well used stances in Shotokan. The weight ration is still biased towards the front leg 70/30.
Dimensions vary between instructors. I had it explained to me as "zenkutsudachi - front foot back by the length of the foot - front foot turned in by the width of three big toes".
So, it's slightly shorter than zenkutsudachi, with your feet and knees pulled in. It is known as an "inside tension stance", though, paradoxically, all he tension may be on the outside.
Importantly: it must be constrained by the bio-mechanical laws that push the weight evenly over the whole foot rather than the inside or outside edge."
