:thumbwink: g'day everyone how r ya's? i just joined gkr last week and am keen as mustard to learn this style. so i was wondering if by any chance i could get a print out of the first couple of katas. so i could visualize these routines. it would be very muchly appreciated. thank you and hope you can help me soon.
Jess
Hi Houndy. Welcome to the site and GKR! :thumbwink:

This site http://www.gkrkarate.org has some kata printouts that basically show the floor plan to the kata. It also has videos that you can download, though from what I hear, they are pretty basic. GKR also has videos, but I reccommend you wait for the DVDs that are "Coming Soon" rolleyes.2.gif .

The site is a good starting point to learn a bit more about our club.

While it may seem cool to learn and then *know* the first three katas, remember that you're just starting out, so it may be beneficial to just focus on your first one - and grading kata - for the time being. In the end you'll end up with a really strong first kata before you move on, as opposed to *pretty good* kata across the board. It's also something to llok forward to. wink.gif See what your Sensei reckons. Remember, if you have any questions, always go to your Sensei first, as a video doesn't necessarily answer everything. smile.gif

It's great that you're interested in visualising kata... it's a great first step to take for someone who is starting out.

Anyway, I'm rambling... Hope to hear more from you soon and hope that I was of a bit of help.

Thats a great site Jessie has linked to. Lots of info and help on the floor plans for most kata.
The videos are expensive - and also out of date, so yeah...wait for the updated ones smile.gif

Welcome aboard, btw! thumb.gif

Well they're not really expensive are they? Last I heard they were A$12. BTW if UK people want them it'd probably be cheaper to contact someone in Oz and arrange to send money to import them than to buy them locally.

But they are horribly out of date.. so many changes. And the video technology of the time was not great.

As far as the argument about "they're just for learning the pattern and then you get correction from your sensei"... You could do the same with a web search and download of a kata video.

Don't be silly.... as if anyone could learn kata patterns by downloading rough videos off the net..... B) si_wasntme.gif

*AHEM*!
i learnt the basic pattern of bassa dai and seiunchin off that site, dont bag those vid's! Yeh thats right! i got sick of hearing yeh your saifa's coming along very nicely and not giving me anythin else to work on on it, so i went and learnt a couple of higher kata's than im not "supposed" to know, i took it to class and they taught them to me properly!

GOTTA PROBLEM??!!

ok ill settle down...

I'm sorry Malice. I was joking! smile.gif I am guilty of learning one or two kata patterns from the site too!!!

Matb's done a good job :thumbwink:

Some people bag the quality of the kata performances but if you just want to get an idea of the pattern, what's the problem? After all, have you seen the official videos? I know I got tired of saying "No, your back leg has to be straight. Yes, I know on the video his leg is bent. Yes, I know I'm telling you to do it a bit different to the video. Yes, I know you now think the video was a waste of money. Didn't I already mention that? ..." ph34r.gif si_wasntme.gif

$15 each I think - I consider it expensive when you can gett all seven patterns at my TKD club on one vid for $25. Ive onle seen the bassai dai one, and it didnt go into any bunkai, but did go through each moment of the kata in minute detail. Of course, the kata doesnt resemble the way we do it now in a lot of places sad.gif

lol.gif @ malice and numee biggrin.gif
They are good for learning the floor plan yes wink.gif

I think you people should all support the club and buy the official videos! It can be expensive to maintain a helicopter and a boat and cars and... ph34r.gif
