Whats Tai bo all about any way?
Brodius
*Blink* It's just a fitness routine that incorporates martials arts to a degree. Like those punching classes that most gyms have now.

The only time I knew the kata ahead was white belt when I knew second kata as well as first but otherwise I've tried to keep on the same kata as my belt and let the excitement of learning a new kata wait till I reach the belt but thats just me
Malice
yeh but i think its important to keep the mind active by regulary learning new things...

Like any martial art. It basically just uses basic punches and kicks, with other 'fun' aerobic routines mixed in.

What seems to often be lost is that there is much to learn within the framework of what we already know. A prime example is the untapped depth in kata... self defence applications, sparring applications, training applications depending on the kata and the section of the kata.

Would you prefer to have your sensei come up with increasingly complex combinations to challenge you or bring out some of these things in kata so that you get to learn more about your kata at the same time as you're practicing it?

We do both! wink.gif we do alot of things that are assosiated with kata but at the same time learning what the moves are for and how they could be applied in a fight situation, we do 1st kata going thought the leg movements but doing basic strikes and blocks with the top half, doing line drills in sumo stance (seiunchin), and get talked through all our kata's alot, so we do go over things alot but i still seem to come out of class always with sumthing new to either work on or try and perfect, it's a healthy mix of learnin and practicin biggrin.gif
