Hi everyone

Victoria and Sam are looking to change their tournament kata, currently they have been doing seiunchin and have been very successful on the tournament circuit with this kata. They feel that the time is right to move on,to another kata,as from our expeirence the the higher grade kata, nearly always take the medals(not always).although getting medals is not of paramount importance to the kids, performing kata to the best of their ability is.They have looked at the kata and would like to do kata sepai.
Unfortunatly the kids sensei dont know the kata, and the rm,is unable to find any time to help as he is a very busy man!,so i set about finding one of our few b belts to ask if they could help, they of course would love to help, but because of work and sensei commitments it is hard to pin anyone down.
So i have set about teaching the kids myself,as i have many times on the other kata,i have hired a hall for an hour every sunday, i have downloaded the kata off the internet and have watched the kata, prob 100 times already. The way i teach the kids is to go through each move, i at a time not moving on to the next move until i am happy that the correct form is being used, after about 6 moves we put them together before moving on again.Periodically or basically when they can, one of our b belts will look at the kids and give us some feedback.I have already gone through the kata with the aid of the b belt,so as to ensure not teaching the wrong things.Apart from the obvious stances, focus, breathing, etc is there anyone who could give us a few tips to help on this kata, maybe your own bunkai ideas, etc so we can play with the various senarios etc, no matter how small all your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Nigel Victoria Sam

Just an aside Nigel as I'm sure Micks information is superior to any I could provide. I really admire the dedication you have to your kids training, regardless of which style. I wish there were more parents out there like that. Also wish the club had the resources over there to help you ....

Mat thank you for your kind words,i am sure there are many parents out there doing the same for their kids.Five years ago i almost lost my life due to suffering a stroke,it has left me disabled,as you can imagine there were some very dark times, however the kids through there karate, with gkr and others, have inspired me to fight back against my disabilities, although i am unable to work(yet) i am able to walk, something i was told i would never do again, i now have the privellage of being a house dad, i am able to care for my kids and do houshold chores, the kids are a very very big part of my life, and as such i support them in everything they do.I am lucky i was given a second chance, and hopefully i am living that second chance to its full potential.

What a inspiration to every one. I hope you get the kids to do this kata and glad to hear that GKR has helped you with getting on top of things
