Hey everyone
I didn't even know this forum was here! Looks pretty cool!
I'm a 23 year old blue belt girl who trains at the honbu in brisbane. Any other honbu goers on this site?
Nice to meet you all!

I asked the same question on another site, and I was told it's just the Headquarters for a particular city. (I think there's a Honbu in every major capital city.)

Well actually, AFAIK, a honbu is the headquarters. A permanent dojo is still just called a dojo. Although I think there can be more than one headquarters in which case there is another name for either the distributed HQ or for the main HQ.
But seeing as how all of Brisbane isn't run from the honbu then it's not really a honbu, yes? They just used the term cos it sounded cool perhaps?

Honbu is the term for headquarters. It is not the term for a permanent dojo. A permanent dojo is called a dojo. Now, they have called the Brisbane permanent dojo a honbu which implies that everything is controlled from there, but not even all of Brisbane is controlled from there. So it's not really, is it?
BTW I think you'd call the new offices in Adelaide
jigyouhonbu (corporate HQ).
Clear as mud now?

Mick is right, Honbu means Headquarters, and since the Brisbane Honbu isn't really the headquarters for Brisbane it doesn't really make sense does it?
It is it's own region, so I guess it's the headquarters for that region LOL.
Either way, what it is basically is a full time dojo. We pay $50 a month and train as often as we like. There are 2 adult classes every week day plus a kids class, 1 each day of the weekend plus classes like yoga, cardio karate, Women's self defence etc. So technically we could train in like 12 karate classes a week plus cardio and yoga for $50 a month! Pretty neat huh?

Sounds like a step in the right direction to me - especially the prepaid.
I gather that normal gold card membership isnt valid there?
