When I was at Ray Hanas on Thursday they did have some books and weapons however they were still in the process of relocating and setting up.
I would hazard to say I think Giris (or the local library) would be the best place for MA books

Canning Hwy huh???
That would make Burridge Martial Arts Supplies just down the road from where i live. I have seen it there actually. Bright green building if i remember correctly.
I'll have to check it out and let you know what it's like.
The window says Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu etc etc etc so I'm guessing they're not just mucking around here.
Will check it out and give you my review at a later date.

Went to Burridge Shop but just when the shop is closing, so I just took a look through the window, not really many stuffs, but lots of gis there.
BTW, I also tried to go to the one on Hay Street, Perth, but it moved to another location at Atrium between St Georges Tce and King St. But I couldn't find it, any now where exactly the location is and the range of suppies.

I had a look at burridge MA Supplies today.
asked lots of questions and had a good look.
mysrh, your right. not much in stock.
lots of burridge martial arts specific equipment, books and videos. including history on the burridge brothers and their instructors and their instructors etc etc.
but if you know what you want they can order it.
plus... if steven burridge is there himself you can describe your needs and he'll know what to order. or if he can get it or not.
shop is open mon-sat til 6 during christmas holidays (except chistmas and boxing days) and back to normal 7pm close after the new year.
just in case you're wondering. also open on sundays for burridge students only.

Burridge shop also serves as their instructor training centre, so I guess a lot of it will be specific to them. They just opened a week or so ago.

I went down to the Burridge shop last weekend. The man there was happy to help me with my queries (I think it was Mr Burridge himself). I was after some sparring equipment. He showed me everything they had to offer, which he would recommend (for MY intended purposes) and even a payment method (such as layby/credit).
He asked what style I studied and we then discussed THAT style (not his).
I also had a chance to check out the weaponary, especially the Bo since that is the weapon I'm learning at the moment. He even let me take them down off the wall to try the different sorts out.
Bo, Sectioned Staff, Nunchuks, Sai, Broad sword...
You name it, he had it (or could get it).
Mr Burridge was so positive and such a nice, down to earth guy to talk to, if I wasn't already studying a martial art, I would consider joining his club.
Two Thumbs Up!

Was at Ray Hana's again today.
I can say they do have a range of Bo, Sai, Swords etc
Also they have a reasonable collection of books. Not as extensive as Giris but the quality is alot better imho.
One of the problems I have with Giri's books is there is so much crap there.
I was talking to Sunil (the guy who runs Ray Hannas) and I was telling him of your plight(ie in search of weapons and books). Sunil provided me his email address and informed me to pass it on to you so you can contact him.
If you can let him know the types of books/weapons you are after he will gladly help you.
I have only been to Ray Hannas twice now but I am always amazed at the level of service I have received. For example. Today was the second time I have been there but Sunil remembered my full name (and correct spelling for it). Whenever I go to Giri's I feel like $$$$$ signs walking in the door.
Anyways his email is sunil@rayhanas.com so drop him an email and see if he cant help you out.
Feel free to let him know that it was I (David Macphail) who gave you his email. Not that it is going to get you any discount or anything

There's more than one Mr Burridge?
He had dark hair and was very cheerful. Seemed like he really wanted to help me out with my queries. He also seemed interested in styles other than his own of Tae Kwon Do (???). He respected my style rather than belittle it.

sounds like mark burridge a very nice man. and it is great to train at the centre when we takes the class 5th dan with no ego what a joy. i'v been lucky enough to get him 3 times so far, he has taken my son twice in the arvo classes (mostly a kids class) aswell, all for the same cost no seminars here. he is outstanding in the way he goes about his martial arts whether it be teaching or just talking to you about what you want to know :thumbwink:. i heard from a little bird he is going to start traing in the class in the morning sessions beacause he thinks his training has slipped abit, training starts at 9.30 the doors open about 9 i'm there at 8.30

"training starts at 9.30 the doors open about 9 i'm there at 8.30 " <---Fang said that.
That sounds exactly like Sensei Brian, a really cool old guy I train and get trained by. He's usually the first person at the dojo, opening the doors nearly an hour earlier, just to get in time to train with kata and stuff.

I'm glad that you had a good experience with Mr maybe Mark or Steve Burridge, I myself found that store to be quite rude personally.
I hope other people had a better experience.

That's a shame paige. I guess it depends on who is working there? But there are quite a few people who will travel further to another store (any store) other than the closest because the customer service is better...

On MA shops, I just got a letter from Giri Martial Arts Supplies that they have opened another store in Whitfords shopping centre. I've always had good service from them, even to the point that if Alex or Cohen were working there they'd have my customer number already entered when I get to the register. And I don't really buy that much that I could be considered a regular customer.
I've also phoned Sunil at Ray Hanas and he's known who I was when I've said my name (as in knowing where I train), and always got back to me quickly on queries.
As I said earlier, customer service is what keeps people coming back.

*bites tongue*

I would very VERY much doubt you would have met Steve B down at the shop. He never left the one centre he owned outright himself (coz he kept all the money from that one) and left the people who part owned the other places to do all the work there whilst he kept his share of the profits without paying wages to them (not bitter at all

). That store has since closed - seems his own partners cant deal with him any more. I should shut up before I get in trouble..... an assault threat will do that to you I guess.
Sunil from Ray Hanas has a photographic memory. It really freaks me out to walk in there after many many months and have him say "Hello Matt - hows the classes at Bullcreek and Jandakot going" Scary stuff!
