Hi again

Can anyone do Jui Jitsu? I'm a fair big guy. Even If i wasnt over weight <<which i am sad.gif >> I would still be fair big. Im about 6"4 or slightly taller with a fair decent shoulder width. Would that really make doing Jui Jitsu hard? Should I just stick to puching/kicking styles?

Does anyone have any Jui Jitsu experience they can impart on the matter?

Regards

I think Nooms and Sionnagh will be able to help you on this one........

I don't think your size would be a problem. But you will find that the techniques that work well for you are probably not the same ones that work well for someone who's 5 foot tall. The art needs to fit the person not the other way round. This shouldn't be a problem if you find a decent style and a decent teacher.

I wouldn't just stick to kicking and punching. If you're interested in self-defence then you limit yourself to striking arts at your peril!

When the kids started ju jitsu, there was a 14 yr old boy that was 6ft 4 inches tall, and he was and is excellent, he recently left to go to uni, and i think he was 6ft 5 when he left, he had no problems at all as far as i know.

in my experience of ju jitsu (japanese rather than brazilian), the bigger guys guys tend to rely on their strength rather than the technique. but i wouldn't let that you stop you, ju jitsu is good fun! smile.gif it has also really helped with my kata understanding.

I'd say it's not just ju jitsu where bigger guys tend to rely on strength - you can see it anywhere, even to the point where (physically) weaker people become instructors and teach that way even though they can only make it work if the "attacker" in a demo attacks in the right way.

Therein lies the problem!
