In the news this week, there was a case of a family who found a brown paper bag abandoned in their front garden. The bag contained (allegedly) $10.000 cash. The family handed the bag into the police.

Since it was handed in there have been over 200 enquiries from people trying to claim the money.

SO

If you found it in your front garden would you hand it in to the police?

Would you call trying to claim the money as your own?

For me, I am a strong believer in karma so I would feel a moral obligation to hand the money into authortities. I would feel too guilty keeping the money and too scared of what would happen.

I couldn't call claiming the money as I am a crap liar that noone would believe me anyway.

I thought his topic was about Tom for a minute... laugh.gif

I think it depends on the circumstances. I'm the sort that tells the corner shop keeper if he gives me 10 pence too much change, but I did once walk out of a bank with lips sealed after the cashier was daydreaming and thought he was counting 10's instead of 20's and gave me £400 too much. unsure.gif Said bank had stung me for much more in charges over the years, so I saw it as good karma. cool.gif

I once pointed out to a lady at an ATM at 6am in a deserted town centre that she'd left a £20 note hanging out the machine before me; obviously hers. If the same £20 was blowing down the street with no-one around, and no-one to return it to, then it would go in my pocket. If that was a bag stuffed with thousands of pounds/dollars....now that's a toughie.

Mmm almost the same as Mark are my expriences rolleyes.gif when i was a boy i found a wallet containing about £500, took it to the police station and never heard another word, a few years later in my teens i found a purse with a £100 in, i took it to the adress in it and gave it back, with a polite thank you from the lady.A couple of years ago i saw a man drop something in a street, when i picked it up, it was a bundle of £20 notes, i called out after him and gave it back, he gave me a cheers mate as he walked off.

If i found money now with no one about, it would go in my pocket, no doubt including the brown bag lol.gif rolleyes.gif

i subscribe to the karma thing too, consequently i would hand it in and wouldn't try and claim it if it wasn't mine. but i'd still hope that the owner didn't come forward after the eight weeks or whatever it is and then it would be mine anyway... laugh.gif

i don't know if the karma thing works for sure, but when i found someone else's wallet i handed it in cash and all. then when i lost my wallet, someone else handed it in...karma/coincidence? you decide wink.gif

I can not even afford to misplace £10 let alone $10,000!
However, if someone was so thick and careless with that amount, and I'd found it, I might be able to spare £10. Yep, I'd keep it. All to often I've done the "right" thing and haven't even recieved a thank you. $10,000 might just set the record straight.
