Full Version: Your dream job?

I am not sure if I have asked this question before, ages ago. Don't care I am going to ask it agan anyhow. I don't have much to contribute karate related at the moment due to lack of time and training but I am always interested in what motivates people.

I am about one third of the way through my third degree and have had the realisation if I had my time over I probably would not want to focus my career on the legal profession. So I may have wasted my time but I am going to continue on regardless as I have too much to lose now. However if I had my time over again, and I was good at science I would probably become a zookeeper or vetinarian. A zookeeper most probably, which is probably not that much different from working in the justice system...

So my question is if you had the time, skill and money to be whatever you wanted what would you be?

i'm in a slightly similar position, in as much as i have invested a lot of time (and money) trying to get qualified as a chartered accountant. however if i had my time over again, i think i'd like to have a go at being an airline pilot. i've got a real travel bug and i want someone else to pay for it! laugh.gif

I'd love to have been a police man, however, my maths wasn't good enough when I took the test. I really am pissed off that I didn't pay attention at school.
I've known a few coppers who've told me I'd make a great copper, if I got in there.

If I could start again I would love to get my hands dirty and be an Archaeologist.

I sorta did and now am 2 exams away from a physics degree and a teaching prac away from an education degree. Then next year I'm planning on doing honours in physics. Being a student is so much more fun than working for a living lol.gif

I'm 11 subjects off finishing a Business degree majoring in Marketing and Public Relations.. but if I could go back three years and apply for a different course, I would probably opt for psychology. At this stage I am thinking I will go on to do my Masters in PR, work in the industry and maybe study psychology part time..

I was going to say gynaecologist, but I couldn't find the right box to tick... unsure.gif

As a kid I always wanted a job as a sportsman or an artist. I was a national level athlete til my late 20's, never quite making the 'big time', but from art college I've been an exhibition designer, running my own agency for the last 20 years. so I suppose I didn't do too bad... cool.gif

I worked for the UK MoD for 5 years as a contractor decommisioning and selling ex-forces vehicles and equipment. As with most really enjoyable jobs though, it wasn't very well paid, and the management expected you to jump through hoops to get things done.

Where I am now isn't too bad, currently working on the Supply Chain contract for LandRover UK. Its fairly well-paid but let down by endless bureaucracy and management issues, although very busy at times 70+ hour working weeks arent uncommon. I'm leaving in a week however for a new life in the sun with my fiance` so I have an idea that my dream job could be just around the corner...

Thanks for all the interesting replies - I suppose if only we could change direction and pick up that new career. For me I just feel I have come too far down the track to change course now.

Some would say it's never too late to change careers. I suppose it depends whether you want to 'start again'.

That's true. I've always gone from one totally different job to another, it means that I've not made a fortune, or climbed the ladder to any huge extent, but it does mean that what i've done has been fairly entertaining.

Yes, I can see how holding up a chair while backing away slowly will come in handy in future... sofa.gif
