Full Version: Forum management update
Karatedo forum > The Dojo > Karate Talk
gkr-unofficial
Hello everyone,

I was due to take over the running of this forum in due course. However I am afraid a major event recently means that I will not be able to run this forum in addition to: the running of my own website & forum at SPAMMER, a local GKR website, a full-time college course, and work part time, plus instruction & training with GKR 4/5 times a week.

Unfortunately this means I will be withdrawing from the management role of Karatedo-forum.com. I have informed Matt, the current administrator and now am informing everybody else.

It is with deep regret that I have made this decision as I wished to take this forum to greater things. Unfortunately this will now have to be achieved without my input.

Many apologies to all those who anticipated the new forum but I am afraid this simply cannot happen under my management.

Regards.
pleb
I'm sorry to hear / read that.

I don't mean to sound crass but I still don't see why Tom does't take the role?
I can't see why this place needs shutting down for weeks for a facelift. It just needs to be linked up to other sites somehow, to generate more interest.

He has a good understanding of all the users on here and his cultural knowledge may serve him, too. fritting from Australia to England, and vice-versa.

Not to mention his input, lets face it, no one donates more to this than he in recent times.

And if it's a time issue, why not just have a few mod's to keep things smooth, rather than the onus being on the admin?

By right's, this should not be an issue at all. It's being treat as though it is hallowed. Hell, I'd do it if I knew how to use a computer rather than just google searching.

Like I said, sorry for being crass. But, it isn't rocket science.
Matt
Joseph that is very disappointing especially as you and shut the place down for 2 weeks, then deleted some posts and threads (guidelines in moderators forum state procedure and reasons for this being acceptable). As you have obtained all the forum database and software I request you delete this and ensure confidentiality of member information please.

*sigh*
Anyone else? Otherwise I guess the place is fucked.
Tom
Looks like the ball is back in my court.

I did actually own the forum for a few months (or at least paid the bills, isnt that the same thing wink.gif )

We'll sort something out.
pleb
What I can't help but get tired of seeing if a semi-defence of GKR in this forum. I know it is perhaps what brought most of us here in the first place. But, can the next guy please be GKR neural, please? (That is to say, neither likes or dislikes).
I'd like to ask my Sensei to link this forum to his website. Quite a few guys from the Wado Kai visit my club's guestbook. As do a few shotokan karateka. That may generate more interest in here. But with GKR being the bubble we are encapsulated in in here, I'm afraid they will not take this forum seriously.
Look in Martial Arts Illustrated lately, A particular Australian club has taken another blow from another magazine!
Sorry to offend GKR goers but karate started long before GKR and is all over the world. And in many respects, being performed/tought as it is meant to be.
Tom
If you can ask your instructor to link us, that'd be great Si. I dont think theres many people left on here who do GKR anymore....
pleb
As soon as I am confident that the GKR appreciation society will back down and allow free thinking and communication in here for all other styles. Thats when I will advertive this forum as best I can, Tom.

As you know, good karateka seems to bring about a quiet spirit (which I don't have). So the guy's I mentioned won't bother if they feel like they have to walk on egg shels at the mention of GKR.

Si
Tom
As I dont do GKR anymore i'm not going to defend it much, theres plenty of other people to do that! I do remember it as being a good social club though (does that count as defence?)
pleb
Unfortunatly I didn't find it a good social club. The only thing that I did get was an introduction to karate, which I never would have had if they didn't come to my door. But that was all, just an introduction.

Now this may be a phenomena in my region, but to my understanding the best karateka had either done karate prior to their GKR, or, they cross trained! With the exception on only one man.
Tom

I've thought the same, there were quite a few people at my old Dojo who were like that.

An "introduction to karate" yeah, that`ll be standing in line doing basics over and over and over again............. It really did my head in sometimes, would have been much happier doing Kata or Sparring or at least hitting something smile.gif

And now....... I do Tai-Chi....and I dont hit anything!

You may MOCK, my good sir! My enhanced mindset allows me to DISREGARD such unworthy comments with IMPUNITY and contempt. I remain UNBOWED by such criticisms and continue to enjoy the mental harmony that my training allows me.

when i get over to Perth, I'll 'ave yer...

Deleted posts and threads? What's that all about then?

Mike
Tom
Nothing untoward Mike. Just a few posts and one thread (both in the Admin section) about the forum takeover. I've double-checked just now and there's nothing else gone.

Jolly good, as you were then. I hope it all resolves nicely and smoothly.

Mike
Tom
It should do. My immediate goal is to start regularly posting again, even if its topics I think we've covered before - it won't do any harm to go over them again, especially if it's been a while. Peoples opinions and viewpoints change after all.

This forum ain't going to roll over yet! (Least not while i'm paying for it smile.gif )
Thatmanwaters
I guess we all need to take some resonsibility for the decline of the forum, both the kids and i still visit on a regular basis, but rarley post, prehaps we should do another whose still here thread, with an update of where you are in your training and with who, it might stimulate some questions, i know the kids are interested in Plebs journey as he is doing Wado, as indeed they are.
pleb
Then please get involved.
Its like banging my head on a wall when trying to breath life into this place.
I'd love to talk about the Pinan's and All the partner techniques.
I'm also going to start posting links to youtube with relavance, in the hope of a topic.

It'll be great to see more of you and your's Nigel thumb.gif

Frogshit there was a whole thread out here. Deleting your own posts is fine but deleting others is not the way we do things here.
I am annoyed he waited till he had access to the database and the forum software before 'suddenly' pulling out.

Please alert me if you receive any unsolicited mail or spot any plagiarised threads. I still dont know what his agenda was but I do not remotely believe it to be sincere.

Be very careful with this persons site.

Interesting, do you mind if I ask what the missing thread about? If its anti-GKR vitriole that's missing I'm sure I can rummage around and rustle something up:-)

My post below is not meant to be in any way spiteful or malicious, I just need to get my point across and if I sound rude whilst making this point then I apologise because I haven't done it on purpose.

Firstly apologies for deleting the other thread, I just didn't think it was necessary to keep it any more. Obviously my judgement on this was wrong and like I say, I apologise.

Part of the reason I apparently 'suddenly' pulled out is because I weighed up all my options and realised that taking on this site too would be way too much for me to handle.

I am shocked to think you believe I am unsincere as you know I have been completely genuine with you from the start and will continue to be with all forum members and yourself. I wouldn't dare send anyone here any unsolicited mail. As for the plagiarised threads there is a limit to what karate forums can discuss so I am sure that topics COULD (not will) cross at some stage but this would be entirely unintentional.

My agenda was to bring this forum to bigger things. Unfortunately I now know that I am not capable of this role any more. I would like to stress that, contrary to apparent beliefs I did NOT have any malicious intentions with/for this site as I am not this type of person. Whether one believes that or not is entirely up to the individual. I have been open, honest and truthful from the word 'go', and if one chooses to believe otherwise then that's their problem.

There's no need to be careful with my website, if that's what you're referring to. I can assure you that no excess caution is needed when browsing my site and I can't see why there would be need for caution in the first place.

Anything else you want to 'discuss', let me know.

Having lurked in the background on all this 'til now, I can't say i'm that surprised. For me, when someone fills out their profile with "grade: sensei", the 'honest-ometer' begins to flash red. unsure.gif

Oh well, best to know now than later, and no point crying over spilt milk either. I intend to take a more active interest from now too. Personally, my training is taking more of an MMA direction of late, even to the point of seriously contemplating a pop at cage fighting, so I'm sure there'll be something of interest to chat about along the way soon enough.

And Tom, if bills need paying let me know and I'll put my share in mate. Do you still use beer as currency? wink.gif
Tom
No payment needed Mark, thats fine smile.gif

I'm emigrating in a few months (as some of you know!) and I'm going to restart my training in earnest again shortly afterwards.

Mark? Tell me more about cage fighting.... There used to be a Dojo above Buxton & Bonnetts in Walsall Marketplace, I'm not sure if it's there now. A lad who I used to work with a while back trained there.
Do you want to start a fresh thread about this?

Should you not have done that before you took the site on and closed it for two weeks, call me cynical if you like i dont care, it would be quite easy given what you have done to think there is a sinister reason for this, even if theres not.

You were welcomed as the new owner of our forum, and im sure most were delighted that you were going to breath a new lease of life into it, but you closed it for two weeks then announced, you couldnt do it now, then advertised your forum on here, imo thats bad taste in anyones book, almost like saying this forums dead come and join mine, so dont expect people to feel sorry for you.In my book it was incredibly rude of you.

Your intentions may well have been honourable, but they didnt turn out that way, but i will thank you for your reply, i bear no malice toward you and wish you and your forum all the best, but surley after your efforts here you can understand peoples feelings.

Im a member of your site and have been for quite some time, but rarley post, as a GKR site i find it hard to breathe there.Of course thats only my opinion.

Respect me when i've done it, not for thinking about doing it! tongue.gif It's just pie in the sky at the moment, especially with my back in the state it's in right now, but it is something I'd like to do at least once before I'm too old for it to be a really stupid idea. My plan of action was to make it down to Steve Morriss's on a regular basis for a few months whilst getting fitter and then assess things from there in around 4 - 6 months time. The back injury has put that back at least 2 months though.
