Years ago, I used to read. I used to read alot. I especially enjoyed James Herbert's horror stories.
Since being married, though, I hardly have the time. But, shopping for Christmas I came across a relativly new one by Mr Herbert. The Secret of Crickley Hall.
Not nearly as horrific as most of his earlier stories, but I found it difficult to put it down untill I'd finally finished last night.
The good thing with James is, he portrays all of the charactures so you can identify with them. Even the evil twisted ones.

If you fancy a look at his stuff, I would recommend the Rats trillogy, The Fog and The Dark. He's done many more beside's. But these stick in my mind as favourites.

Anyone else got some good reading suggestions?
Susan
It is a teen series but I found it quite good and was put onto it by some of the guys I work with on the mines so it's definately worth a suggestion.

John Marsden - The Tomorrow Series. The first being "Tomorrow: When the War Began"

Without ruining it for anyone, it's about a group of teens who have to deal with the take over of Australia. It's set in Australia's outback.

I'd say........

"The Winter King", "Enemy Of God" and "Excalibur" All by Bernard Cornwell. Supurbly written retelling of the Arthurian legends.

Anything by Clive Barker, especially "Weaveworld" and "Coldheart Canyon" FANTASTIQUE at its best........

"Watchmen" Graphic novel by Alan Moore - because its just that damned good.

and..... "Karates History and Traditions" by Bruce A Haines - works as both a history of asian fighting arts and as a guide to far-eastern culture.

I joined the local library last Saturday and loaned two James Herbert books that I hadn't read before. I just finished 'Haunted' last night. I was quite disappointed with it. Well written, but lacking his great imagination. I could tell what was going to happen all along. And I don't like that.
Still, a crappy one out of loads of good ones isn't bad at all. I started reading his 'Others' last night, which boasts to be one of the most disturbing, 'cause it's based on true findings. Cool.

Yeah, I read "Others" a few years back. It IS disturbing, very well written though, but not something you want to read late at night.......... sofa.gif
