I am attempting the John Hughes Big Walk with some friends (from Perth to Fremantle here) on Sunday 21 October. For those not familiar its an 18km walk along the coast to raise money for charity.

I have only ever done the Walk to Cure Diabetes which is a nice 8km walk. Does anyone have any fitness tips to get me fit before the walk, and to help me reach the end of the line on the day?

This is more of an endurance challenge for me, I want to see if I can do it...

The only things I can suggest are a good pair of walking shoes or trainers, and make sure you take some water with you!

But it`s for a good cause, and If I werent so far away I`d probably do this aswell!

Theres a link here if any of you guys fancy it.

Sprints will help your endurance, but not an awful lot given the limited time between now and then. Worth a shot though because it will increase it a little at least.
Enjoy the day and take pics! smile.gif

Today was D- day. I was up at 6am, which is punishment in itself on a Sunday morning!

I took my camera but it never made it out of my bag. Once you got the momentum up there was no stopping. It was good there were six of us that went, and it was good conversation so you didn't notice the distance. We swapped around and walked with different partners all the way. It took us approx three and a half hours to get to Fremantle which was okay I thought.

We made it to the Esplanade in Fremantle, and Rachel's first comment was right we made it, is it time for wine now. So we walked around to Sandrino's for lunch. I have never been so happy to see a chair in my life.

After lunch got up to go to the ladies, and Megan was like whats wrong with you, and I said, "I think I have stress fractures in my feet." Even a pair of $150 cross trainers are not comfortable after 18km.

I told the girls that next year when I mention that it would be fun to do this event can someone just slap me. No seriously, it was okay, and it didn't seems as bad when you were walking it. I honestly thought I'd get to 10km and not be able to walk any further.
