Full Version: 10k run

Bikergirl and myself (along with Chrissy from our dojo) are doing the 10k run in Sutton Park on the 7th October in aid of Cancer Research. For me, it's not only an incentive to get fit for a good cause, but a chance for me to mark the memory of my Dad, Bernard, who passed away from prostate cancer a couple of years ago aged just 63. Ramona has also lost a close friend to another form of cancer, and we thought it fitting to try and drag our fat arses around Sutton Park to try and raise money to hopefully prevent others experiencing similar loss.

So, below is the link to our fundraising website where you can donate online. Any donation, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated, and is sure to spur us on around the course; especially when we reach the infamous 'cardiac hill' near the end! unsure.gif

A photo and a bit more blurb will be appearing next week (I am NOT the fat bloke on the default pic!), and we hope to keep you updated with a running total of donations both on and off line.

Thanks for your support. smile.gif

This terrible disease touches so many lives. I've just past my 2 year anniversary of being diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer. 2 months after my last Chemo, I started training for the 5K Race for a Cure and completed it ...which is, I felt, quite an accomplishment. I did it again this year.. believe me it wasn't nearly as difficult.

You can count on me for support. smile.gif

Update: a proper pic has been added to the site, which you can download and put on a very small dartboard. And yes, Ramona's eyes do actually glow red like that. It's actually quite scary in the dark. unsure.gif

*throws evil look in Mark's direction* No they don't! He's photoshoped that picture. In reality he isn't that much taller than Chrissy and me, either blink.gif

Actually, it was the girls who were standing on chairs - they actually only come up to my waist in real life. laugh.gif

There you go Folks, another few quid in the pot. Best of luck with the "Cardiac Hill"!

Cheers Tom, that's took us into 3 figures. I guess we'll actually have to run now... unsure.gif

Bit rude if I read that right. I shot off an email saying "no spam please".

Less than 3 weeks to go.... unsure.gif

We're up to £145, with begging at work yet to be done. Many thanks to all those who've backed us so far. I'm not sure if Ramona and I would get out of bed to run at 5:30am and 6:30am respectively if there wasn't anything riding on it.

Any donations, however small, are greatly appreciated and are going to a wonderful cause. smile.gif

So... how was it? Did you all enjoy it? Raise lots of money? Come home in one piece? Or did the girls have to carry you again Marp?

T'was a nice autumnal day for a relaxing jog in the park... cool.gif It was quite a nice course I thought - lots of soft grass, not too much tarmac and the hills weren't half as bad as they were made out to be.

We'd decided to run around as a team regardless, so stick together we did. To be honest, I thought Ramona's effort was a huge achievement. It was obvious she was struggling to breathe well after about 3k, and battling through that, stitch and knee pain she refused to stop and walk any of the course. I'm not sure my constant encouragement and talking to take her mind off it did any good or was just annoying, but we all made it round eventually.

We got beat by the bloke in a leprachaun suit who passed us at about 6k, but thankfully no-one in a chicken suit went past us... 36:15 for the winner...I'll have 'im next year. laugh.gif Once my next grading is out the way, I think I'll put a few months specific 10k work in and go for a time somewhere around 45 mins. I'll definitely be back at the Sutton run next year to see how quick I can run it.

Thanks again for all who donated. It's what made us not turn around at the start and run towards the car park... unsure.gif
