Didn't get to do any sparring We ran out of time 'cos of doing kata about a thousand times (that's what it felt like anyway!) They ran out of time when I went for my orange aswell.....Tis not fair (stamps foot!!)

Oh, by the way, the old rumour that if you knock out your Instructor, you automatically get a awarded a black belt, is sadly an urban myth. Which is a real pity! It doesnt stop people from trying though

I do seem to remember reading somewhere though that it wasn't unheard of for a student to challenge an instructor, or even try to take them by surprise in training, but they risked a drubbing by doing so (if they lost). Fact or myth? I don't really know...

Have any of you tried semi free style sparring [jiyu ippon] and free style sparring? [jiyu] and IMO thats when anything can happen including the sweat and tears into it all.
IMO its the most difficult/complicated part of karate, i find it hard because i can never remember what to do ie i don't want to attack when i shouldn't and attack/s that take me by surprised.
