I was just wondering what you thought of this clip.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtKa2zmgucA

It shows the kids instructor doing a double nunchaku kata for a demonstration.

I'd just like to point out this this isnt a traditional kobudo kata, it has been made 'flashy' to appeal more to all of those people who dont know anything about weapons at the demo.

Part of the idea was to put something on YouTube that actually was Martial Arts, rather than the millions of videos of people doing nunchaku in front of a webcam in their bedroom.

Anyway I just wondered what your comments were.

It certainly looks impressive. IMO it generally looks better when someone who has trained in a traditional method performs a flashy "for show" demonstration than someone who has learnt how to perform a kata for demonstration without any foundation to build it on.

I agree with Mick, there`s definitely something there that sets that demo apart from the others I`ve seen. Was the jumping kick an addition? I think there`s a kick in the 2nd nunchaku hata that we do but can`t be sure (not done it yet, and hey, its only 5am here!)

Yeah the kick was added to spice it up, for the non martial artists at the /show demo, theres definatly kicks in Craigs sensei Nunchaku sylabus, but nothing fancy like that.

Heres the website of the kids Ju jitsu, wado Ryu, Kobudo, Kenjutsu Craig Phillips sensei, there are a few more demo clips on the Video section some of you may find interesting, inc a recent demo at the Ama in Nottingham, i think this clip may change as we have located a better film, look out for Samurai Sam laugh.gif
