We had been invited to take part in a martial arts exhibition day with all proceeds going to the Peter Lynham memorial fund, peter was a member of another forum who tragically was taken from us, so suddenly at such a young age.

Sam and i jumped at the chance to help out at this event, So sat am we found ourselves winging our way to dorsett(3 to 4 hrs) in the company of a good friend and chauffer for the day Gojugray.

When we got there we discovered that we had a half hour slot to fill and not the ten minutes we thought or the 15 mins that it said on the programme,.
We had decided to just to do a few traditional weapons kata each taught to us by Craig sensei. but we got carried away with it and managed 20 minutes on the mats.

Sam started off with 3 jo kata linked into one long kata, then I followed doing 2 Bo ka, Sam then did 3 sword kata as one, I followed with 4 single nunchaku kata as one, then came sam with a sai kata, and then me with the sansetsukon kata, Sam finnished off with a very long kama kata, and i did 2 Tonfa kata.

Then we showed variations with our training by performing a freestyle weapons kata each, Sam doing his favourite sword, inc a no handed cartwheel, yup dads recovered now!!! and me doing my fave freestyle routine with double chucks, then we finnished off by doing a Korean Tang soo Do black belt kata, so the contrast was available for all to see from the earlier Goju kata that were performed.

There was some fantastic demos on display, with various styles coming together in a fantastic cause.

Some of the kobudo displays were so different from what we have been taught by our kobudo Craig Phillips sensei, some of the kata seemed to be performed so slow, and we heard one person say that there was to many spins in our traditional chucks kata? but when you strike something it doesnt come back under control it can go anywhere, so you have to spin over the armpit to regain control? then they said they were going to do chucks but after seeing me they wouldnt??

Id like to think that wasnt the case , and its a real shame that the nunchaku were not shown, as it would have been interesting to compare, not in terms of whose best, but just the differences.
