I saw the new Lara Croft movie on Friday night. Didn't really work for me but that's another discussion. At one point she is practising Kendo with her butler and she turns around and smashes a vase. I was left wondering what the point of that was. I think martial arts are about self control and smashing vases isn't really what I consider a good example of self control. If anyone else has seen the movie maybe they could give me their perspective on it.

the reason you didn't notice the vase is the SAME reason i haven't seen the movie
and also the same reason why i didn't watch the original one until it hit the video shelves
mind you the first one was ok i guess...
might watch the second one eventually

Kendo is pretty cool too. I used to train with that style not that long ago. True, i don't train with it anymore, but I still have the Bokken that I used.
She broke a vase? Was it a valuable one?

I guess in typical Hollywood style they have to sacrifice accuracy and realism for the cheap thrill

I suppose it is based on a game!
She is part of the reason I always wanted to do some form of martial arts. I loved her strength and ability in the first movie. I'm never going to look as good as her but I can have fun trying. :thumbwink:
Kendo looks interesting. Why did you stop Brodius?

You have to remember that most stunts in movies like that are done with wires and stuff, so you couldn't do them in real life, unless you were Bruce Lee. He rules.
Kendo got pretty boring after a while, and I didn't see how it would help me out much in real life. If I carried a sword around I'd probably be arrested anyway.
