Full Version: You know you're addicted....

I'm sure we've all seen the various threads on the topic 'you know you're addicted to karate when...' but has anyone done any of those things?

A few months ago, on a holiday that started right after the world cup, Sam woke himself up doing Seiunchin in his sleep.

The same week I tried to wake Mrs W, having a kip on the sofa for a change!, and she caught me with an inside hooking block. I then realised she was sleeping in the second position for Bassai Dai.

Last week I opened the shed door and half a dozen decking planks fell on me. I managed to defect all but one with inside hooking blocks.

During football practise at school the trainer had the kids in a circle. he said 'everyone take a big step backwards' and Sam said 'Hai' and bowed before he moved!!

The kid are always bowing in and out when they don't need to, especially at school.

Please tell me we're not alone in this.... help.gif

I bow all the time.
I also Hai most of the time just out of habit.

Worst times is when I am having a meeting with someone like the other day with my Inurance broker and he asked if I was okay with the policy details. I reponded with a nice load Hai which nearly made him jump out of his chair smile.gif

Or when you say "hai" and it sounds like "hey" and they repeat what they just said wink.gif

Well... I help my wife speed up looking at clothes...

You know those long mirrors they have in clothing departments and shops? I find that if I use them to practice stances and techniques it takes much less time for her to get through looking tongue.gif

Aha now i know that she knows how to reply under my sign on.

But if I post this then she'll know that I know that she knows how to.

I seem to be always going through techniques over and over, when I'm standing around doing nothing much. My family seems to think that I can see flies, that they can't, and I'm 'swatting' them or something...

I've been doing karaqte nearly 2 years now and i'm in highschool (first year). and i always go around almost bowing at doors to my classrooms and when i walk through them i think "did i bow then". after a while bowing before u enter the room and stuff just becomes instinct. What i do is that when i'm in the dojo i block out everything that happened outside the dojo and when i'm outside the dojo i block out the dojo. I'm still constantly running through katas in my head but thats alright.
Brodius
Wow, I never bow at doors or respond with "Hai" or "Wakarimashta" out of the dojo. I seem to be able to switch on and off really easily.

Or maybe you're not getting into it enough wink.gif
Sam - Kata-in-the-mind is a great boredom reliever yes?
Sam S
Yes it is the best boredome releiver. I also do it to improve my imagination (dont ask why coz i dont know). i try to look at me doing my kata through someone elses eyes. so i create an image of me in my head and then make it do my katas how i would usually do them and i can see if it looks right or wrong etc.
Brodius
Yep, that's called 'imagination'.
