I have recently had a knee operation on my right knee and now have plate and two pins in my right knee. I am thinking of returning to training after having not been able to train since may. Do you have any sudgestions for making my training easier

If it was a reconstruction, it's recommended if you check with your doctor if the new ligament is strong enough for stress. Also it's necessary to build up the loss muscle, especially the thigh muscle. You don't want to damage the new knee, because it's expensive wink.gif

I had a reconstruction before and it shrank my leg muscle after using crutches for few months. It was 5 years ago, but even now, I still feel my left muscle is weaker than my right one.

My wife recently had knee surgery to remove a metal rod in her lower leg following a serious break a few years ago. The surgery (3 operations in all) has really wrecked her knee (note to self - get private health cover rolleyes.2.gif )

Her advice:
* Go to a sports physiotherapist. The advice and treatment from them has been invaluable to her as she slowly returns to training. She estimates its taken months off the rehabilitation.
* Train lightly - any decent instructor will allow you to train at your own pace for as long as required (hey - we're happy you turned up!!! wink.gif )
* Beware of swelling and listen to your knee. It will tell you when to pack it in - dont ignore that!
* Heat treatment
* Strengthening exercises as advised by physio

Good luck mate - hope it all mends quickly for you!
