On 90.5 FM, here in Perth, most Sundays there is a radio show called "Talking Martial Arts". Every week, they interview someone from the MA scene, mostly those based in Perth, but often visitors from elsewhere.
On December 3rd, one of the featured guests is Mick Todd, founder of
Kitsunekan Karate, and the other will be Chris Hoath from
Coastal Shotokan. The show will go to air at 5pm, after "The Boxing Show" (which starts at 4.30 if you're interested).
I'm sorry. I'm hopeless at writing blurbs.

If you are not local and would like to listen, you can also find streaming audio
HERE and listen online.

That`s great. Thanks for that Kathie. I`m glad I`ll be able to listen online.
This really is a fantastic opportunity for both guests to talk about their clubs, their karate, the what, the why and the how.

Chris has told me he can't make it as he has other commitments so looks like it'll be just me.
With all the "fight nights" and kickboxing stuff over the next month they wanted to put something other than kickboxing in that week. And somehow they found us. Not sure how but hey! It's not everyday you get invited to do a radio interview.

Shame Chris can't make it. You'll just have to talk more!

I have no idea how they found you...

Looking forward to this!

And for what it's worth, I think you did a fabulous job in spite of the hijacking and drifts of topic that went on, Mickle. You did great!

Really easy to setup.... you get to decide what to save it as.. but you might need real player to listen to it...
I am currently trying the auto on and off, will let ya'll know or those interested.
I will try recording it today and if anyone would like a copy, I can email it.
EDIT: AUTO On is working

Due to a glitch in the mailing system, I hae only just learned there has been a programming change for this Sunday - Talking Martial Arts will commence at 6 p.m. (in 40 minutes from the time of posting this!) and this week the guest instructors will be from the Westside Kickboxing Academy - Mark Butcher and Garth Brown.

Did it work then? Apparently the station does have a recording which may be available, and this week's show (which was brilliant in the end!) *should* be aired again next Sunday but I haven't got times yet.

Dec 12 2006, 03:55 PM
Hell yeah it worked, I got to hear a bit of the game between WA and England... Well that who I think it was, might have to listen to a bit more..
I taped about 2hours of the station and the file size was stupidly low, even peeps on dialup would like a copy.. It saves it as a .asf(or.asx) file which I played via "real Player"...
Is the program on at the same time every week?
If, so I would be more then happy to record them and email to as many people that would like or maybe I might be able to find a server to host the file(s)......
So if you can find out what time it air's every week and we can take it from there...
Just a quick tally of those who would like to have a copy....
and I will double check the file size.

In theory, it's on at 5pm every Sunday (WADST) but the cricket apparently takes precendence at the moment (harrumph). Last Sunday, even the people presenting the show were told three different times! I will find out though, and see how reliable they are this week.
And considering how much hassle I am having getting a copy from the station, you can put me down for one, please.

Dec 13 2006, 06:16 AM
Ah, we`ve had it for years! But the broadcast time over here (GMT) would be 8am.
russkris
Dec 13 2006, 01:59 PM
so now WA is only 2 hours behind from Tassie time.
Sweet so that 7pm tassie time.
I re checked the file size and it was more then I thought, the 2hr tapeing was 15mb and the 45min was 5mb.
I havent check what zipping would do, so I will let ya know.
Send me a PM with your email address if ya want a copy and I will make a outlook thingy up..
Dialup should do a 5mb file in about 15 minutes.
So i will let ya'll know the zipped size

Just been sent the info for next week:
"Last weekend Grandmaster William Cheung of Wing Chun
Kung Fu was in Perth - conducting seminars on Wing
Chun at Sifus Peter Guys academy in Midland on
Saturday and Sunday.
We have an hour long interview with Grandmaster Cheung
this weekend commencing at 4.30 - 5.30 p.m. (WADST). This is a
definite quality listening time - for all martial arts
practitioners to tune in this interview. "
This is a replay of the interview from last Sunday (it was awesome and this dude used to teach someone called Bruce Lee apparently...) and *should* be aired on time.
russkris
Dec 14 2006, 02:06 PM
Right I will sent it to start recording at 6:20pm..
Nooms
Dec 17 2006, 05:32 PM
I hope you set it to record for at least an hour and a half then, considering it started late... bloody cricket.
Just a few points on the interview from today. The interviewees were
Grandmaster William Cheung (
The World Wing Chun Kung Fu Association) and Paul Ferrara from
The Personal Protection Academy.
William Cheung was in Perth last weekend, conducting seminars at Si-Fu Peter Guy's
Wing Chun Academy in Midland. Some of his claims to fame are his introducing Bruce Lee to kung fu and then training him for the next four and a half years, and he set the world speed punching record in 1984 (8.3 punches per second!).
The interview is awesome - he's a knowledgeable, polite, humble man and makes me wish I had gotten to learn from him while he was here. Unfortunately, Paul Ferrara seemed to fade into the background somewhat, but was happy to sit back and listen, and be awed by Grandmaster Cheung.
