Highly beneficial I`d imagine. Would techniques and whatnot differ to those taught to a male or mixed class?
Sionnagh
Techniques and whatnot should differ especially if they are doing a self-defence workshop since, as we all know, the common assaults against women are different to those against men.

I suspect however that it may be just a gimmick to get people to turn up and pay for an extra class.

That does sound very cool. I'd pay to go - if I lived in Sydney. dry.gif sigh... happy.gif

Vicki, dont forget s/Linda Marchant runs a women only course every February. Am going to try to get along there next year! Let's talk nearer the time...
Susan
One would hope it covered techniques specific to attacks on women...

Other things it could cover is self esteem issues and stranger danger for the littlies since it's open to all ages.

Unfortunately attacks on women are very different to attacks on young girls and the techniques should differ here aswell.

I'd be interested to know how it goes if anyone can make it.

I suppose it depends on what you try to get through. I suppose if you want to talk about awareness there are some things that are specific to females. But what do you think is the advantage of female only seminars? Personally I can't see it. Yes you'd probably feel more comfortable but if you're doing self defense then shouldn't you be training outside ouf your comfort zone? Wouldn't it be more beneficial to have big guys there? I'm not sure of the most common attacks on women but somehow I'd expect most of them to be FROM men, aren't they? The idea of KB attacking me is just... well.... lol.gif

Id like to go and Try Ramona and see whats on offer, there was this guy who is local who gets a lot of good press, but he wont teach me his stuff cos im to young(15 next week) but hey im old enough to be attacked and raped.prehaps Sensei Linda will teach me.

I grapple and fight adult males everyweek, i dont feel comfortable doing it, but its what i need to do, yuk they are all sweaty and orrible laugh.gif , but its great when i get them into locks and they squeal like little piggys laugh.gif

It was pretty good, but we didn't really go into gender specific self defence techniques or anything. We did a few sparring drills and exercises. Mostly it was about getting all the females together and kind of saying "yeah, we've got just as many people as the guys do". I think it was more the attitude that the instructors had (Claudine, Hayley and Michelle, Sydney siders could probably tell you their last names). Basically that you can be a woman and still be successful as a martial artist.

Alot lately I've come across this idea that in order to be a successful martial artist as a female you have to more or less take on masculine traits (strangely enough I've found this attitude more from women than men) and you can't really be taken seriously if you're "just" a female doing martial arts. We didn't do a great deal technically that we hadn't done in class, but it was the attitude more than anyting else that impressed me. And it was pretty nice being in a class that was all females for a change smile.gif
