Full Version: The Final Fu

Well it had to happen.

Channel surfing on sunday I came across an MA based reality TV show called for some reason 'The Final Fu', courtesy of who else but our American friends (no offence intended Jules).

I gotta admit to being totally unfamiliar with some of the 'styles' represented. 'American Karate' scratchy.gif and a whole heap of impressive sounding oriental names that all still managed to look like Taekwondo. Even the Isshin Ryu competitor did some pretty fancy axe kicks.

Ten people compete in a series of challenges for points, then fight it out for more points.

Points were awarded.

* 1 point for kicks to the target areas;
* 2 points for "punching techniques" to the target areas, as well as jumping kicks and spinning kicks.
* 3 points for jumping spinning back kicks.

No contact to the head at all.

Points then added on to the challenge points. Most points wins.

Like a slowly unfolding traffic accident I couldnt take my eyes away.... There was some pretty spectacular stuff, but I cant help the thought that a well placed punch on the schnoz would have reduced all of these guys to quivering wrecks.

Boz - for the love of the gods dont turn this on if you value the last remaining unburst blood vessels on your temple... Awful stuff. errrr.gif

There was something similar last year on SBS, called “Fight school”. A bit like big brother for martial arts. All competitors came from the UK. Every day they had to complete some challenge to stay in the “house”. Some challenges where martial arts related, other only in a remote way, like climbing up high posts etc. After the challenges, the winner of the challenge decided who had to fight the looser of the challenge. The looser then had to leave the show. For most of it, it was a good show.

And you`ll be glued to it for the rest of the season.....
