Matt
Apologies to all viewers/members who have been frustrated with some very slow loading times recently.
I am working to find out what the problem is and hopefully it will all be sorted out soon.

Thanks.
Franki
Hi Matt,

The server migration went very smoothly last night and I hope you don't get many stray posts between new and old servers.

I noticed that your forums runs quicker now (query time is much lower), but the forum rendering is faster (but not as fast as it should be) when comparing to my in perth forums (phpbb), which runs on the same server.

I see that you have Gzip enabled on the forums, try disabling to see if it helps. Gzip compresses the data on the server prior to sending it to the user, user's browser then uncompresses the data for rendering. Gzip will save you some bandwidth, but uses server and user's CPU and RAM, user may get the data quicker, but the compress/uncompress process requires time, hence.

HTH

Franki

EDIT: Viewing threads/posts is very quick. It's the forums index that's slow(ish) - could be the HTML on the index as well...

Thanks for the info Franki, I`ll have a chat to Matt later.
Matt
Thanks very much Franki.

I've disabled Gzip - IPB have it enabled by default apparently 'for faster loading.' Seems theres been a few gripes on their forum about speed issues also. I take your word over theirs any day.

Theres an upgrade due soon - will see if that improves things further.

In-Perth looks like a great forum for us locals too! Cheers for the link and I'll try and be a visitor. Thanks again for all your help!

No worries. Sorry you have to put up with poor server performance of late. I'm looking forward to a looooong lasting performance with the new setup.

in perth is as dead a door nail in terms of activities, it's more useful to me as server diagnosing and tweaking wacko.gif .

I've been off here for quite some time and I see on my return that hardly anyone says anything! This is absurd. Come on, get your arses into gear and type something!
