Thank you...

I have another question about bo. In ShushiNoKunSho, the kata we do, everything is right handed but we learn both left and right handed kihon. Is it the same in the bo kata that you do with Craig?
Thatmanwaters
Sorry Jo i havnt a clue what the kata are called, ill pop the dvds over to you soon, and you can show me the kata.

Craig, as far as i know gets the students to perform the kata with the right arm,
During the fundementals for each weapon they do have to do them using first the right and then the left, so they are reasonably comfortable with both arms.So the same as you.

Sorry i cant help any more

Hi Jo

I do a version of Shushi no Kon which is also right-handed.

Ages ago I found a website - http://www.jkfnw.com/kobudo/syllabus/default.php - which has several different versions of Shushi, of which none are the same as the one I know, and yes our kihon are practiced with both hands even though Shushi is right handed. There are other kata which are not so biased and use both sides more equally.

Hmm - have we done 'right handed bias' here yet? wink.gif

smile.gif just had a quick look at the clips and yes the kids do that Bo kata

Right-Handed Bais towards Kobudo, Matt? - or other Martial-Arts...
Sionnagh
*** Off-topic warning ***

Matt has a bias against anything that clashes with the footy fixtures. I don't think it has anything to do with being right-handed though.

I recall a discussion about karate/MA in general being biased toward right handers but cant recall where.
Examples such as weapons kata always have weapon in right hand, Heian Shodan having the block only on the right side etc etc etc.

Hmm - didnt they used to burn left handers as witches? duck2.gif
Shito-ryu Man
Matayoshi Kobudo (Zen okinawa Kobudo Renmai) does not have bias to either left or right side. We actually change hands when steping forward or back etc and striking.

Thanks for the link Mick. That is really interesting and informative and I shall have a proper look at it tomorrow with bikergirl.

Just a quick note to say it was good to see KB at kobudo today, It`s a fair way to come for a class.
I think thats what they call dedication smile.gif

BTW what was that Tekko kata we were shown today? My mind is like a sieve these days....

It's Mezato no tekko (I assume as I wasn't actually there).

It's not dedication, KB is just desperate because they don't offer her fun stuff in Essex... lol.gif ! No seriously, I reckon KB spends more on petrol than on tuition!
Tom
Hi Ramona, that sounds right, about the kata and the petrol!
I`ve heard there`s lots of fun to be had in Essex... But I won`t go into details!

The couple who run the kobudo course are having a seminar on the 11th febuary, When I find out more info, I`ll post it here.

I'm not making any more Essex jokes - she's a black belt now and scares me wacko.gif

The details of the seminar 11th Feb are on the website gki under forthcoming events.
Tom
Wow, that was quick! Cheers smile.gif

*maintains a dignified silence and starts searching for tekko manufacturers - there must be some on the black market in Essex*
Tom
Having been down that way a couple of times, I just wonder if there is anything other than a black market!
