Hi all

Hoping someone can help me.

The white belt [Sports Master Australia] that I was issued by my club has gone yellowy. I don't know what I did but I can't seem to get it out. I've only had it 5 weeks. Why does it do that?

I've tried soaking it in Napisan Oxyaction Max - didn't work. Yesterday I tried soaking it in White King fabric safe bleach for 10 mins (1:40 dilution) and that didn't work. Now my white belt is still yellow AND now stinks of chlorine! I used the regular White King - should I have got the lemon one??

My dilemma is that I have my yellow belt grading on Fri 8th Sep and I want to revive my belt to its original brightness.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. It's hardly worth buying another one, is it? But I'm paranoid Kyoshi (master instructor who will be assessing us in our grading) will notice and question why it's yellowy.

You may find many peoples white belts 'fade' to a yellowy colour. An to be honest I think bleach on white fabric causes more yellowing.

I wouldnt worry too much about it. It shows that you've been working hard towards your first grading as the sewat is likely to cause the yellowing also.

If you are that worried about it just buy a new one or even a second hand one from an Op Shop.

Good luck with your grading, and welcome to the forum...
let us know how you go when you do the grading.

I wouldn't recommend bleach for your belt or your gi as already mentioned it does turn fabric yellow. Don't worry about the white belt discolouring as this does happen. Does anyone you train with have a spare belt you can borrow? I had five white belts as everytime I bought a gi it came with a belt. One of our new members who use to train with Goju had lost is white belt so I gave him one of mind. There just might be someone in your class who will be more than happy to lend you a belt.
