GKR regional tournament - 18th June, 2006
It started with a freezing cold bus trip up to sydney early sunday morning.
It was actually a very beautiful morning, although when I commented on this fact to my team mates, I recieved rather strange looks from them.

Anyway, when we fiiinally reached the tournament, we got to spend the first half of the day filming and cheering various team mates.
Then it was time for team kata.
First up was my team that consisted of myself, Skye and Kim. We were doing sanseryu, and after a performance that felt awesome, we were awarded scores of 8.1 from all the judges. Not bad for the opening team.

I think Yolanda's team went next, and ended up tying with another team for 2nd place.
A kata-off later, and Kat, Cath and Yolanda beat the other guys, thus securing a 1, 2 for the ACT!
Directly after that was team kumite.
We drew the NSW "B" team first up, and lost 3-2 to them.
But as there were only 4 teams, we got to spar again to see who got 3rd and who got 4th place.
I drew with the very scary BB in my bout. Then we won 2 bouts and the other team won 2 bouts, so we had to spar again.
I got a waza ari, then she got a waza ari, then I got another one. Yay! We actually managed to get somewhere in team kumite!
Straight after that was the opens. I was pretty happy with my kata, but somewhat disadvantaged by the fact that I went straight after Skye, who has the most amazing sumo stance. Mine is pretty low, but hers puts us all to shame. Still, was pretty happy with my kata, and finished in the middle of the ring placings, so was pretty happy with that.
Yolanda and Kat were on the other ring, so I didn't see how they went.
Then it was time for open kumite.
The gods that smiled at me when I won that last bout of team sparring were obviously looking the other way, because I drew the same BB!
She got a couple, then we started going point for point, but time ran out with her at 2.5 and I only had 1.5.
Still, it had been an awesome tournament for me, and I was very happy with how I had done.
Skye then had to face Claudine for her bout and........ WON!
There was shock and crying and everything. Very emotional.
Then she had to spar another of the BB greats, and managed to tie with them, only losing in sudden death.
Meanwhile, Yolanda was still in the competition, and then it was announced that she would be sparring for 3rd/4th. And she won too!
So when it came for the medal presentations, the ACT were jumping up for almost everything.
The boys got 3rd in team kata, 3rd in team kumite, and we girls got 1st in team kata, 3rd in team kumite, and 3rd in Open kumite.
Wow, what a day.
