Hi everyone,

I'm a new member to this forum and also very new to Karate as I'll be attending my first class this Friday night and I'm looking forward to it.

I'm 28, live in Melbourne and I've been interested in Karate for a long time but have never got around to attending any classes. My fiancee's little brother and I will be attending classes together which will be good as I think he will really benefit from it as will I.

Anyway, I look forward to the path ahead and can't wait to get started, I also look forward to chatting to everyone on here and learning new things.

The first class is always the hardest, I know I felt so unco (and sometimes still do!) and you walk out of the dojo that first night probably only remembering a quarter (if that) of what you have been shown.

But if you keep at it is one of the most rewarding experiences of your life (I know it has been for me). You will meet some fantastic and inspirational people throughout your karate journey, and I have to admit the majority of them I have met through this forum. bgrouphug.gif

Hi Mel,

Thanks for your reply, I'm very sure I will be unco in my first class also. wink.gif What is the most difficult thing for a beginner? Is it the fitness required for the classes or just that you're training to do something you've never done before?

Its different for everyone Brett, for me the hardest thing was getting the brain around doing one movement with one arm, and another movement with the other arm. Doh.gif

I would interested to hear what everyone else remembers about their first karate class....
Nooms
First night of training... mass confusion, bewilderment, the thought "I am NEVER going to get this" running through my head, "what the hell is a kee-eye and why do we have to say "hey" all the time?"... and knowing within the first five minutes of class that I had found a place I wanted to be and where I could finally do something. smile.gif
Oh, and I was so charged when I got home that night, it was an hour before I could sit still! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Hardest thing for most is walking into a hall of complete strangers wearing gi's and not walking straight out again. I hope your class is a friendly and welcoming one.

After that its the ache as long unused muscles wake up screaming wink.gif

Welcome aboard, btw
