Dragonelle
Hi, my name is Elle. I have been training on and off for about 20 years. Originally Budokan, with a splattering of Goshin-Ryu and Kempo, but predominately Shotokan. I am a member of the Karate Union of Australia (www.kua.com.au) which are a traditional Shotokan style with dojos in most states of Australia.

I am 34, act 21, and looking forward to competing in the veterans from next year (these 19 year olds are too fast for an old karateka like me! I get tired just watching them now!)

Love all martial arts, and enjoy debate on the ups and downs of all. So long as the comments are not polictically motivated of course!!

Fav Kata: Chinte and Hangetsu
Fav Kumite Technique: A good mawashi or ushiro geri
Fav Post Training: Cold beer, hot spa, and sushi train (not in that particular order)
Pet Hate: Not enough women training
Pet Love: Men in gi's

Cheers - E
Matt

Glad you could join us and hope to hear some of your views. Im sure Goyle will be happy - I think women outnumber the men here now!

Hey there Elle, nice to meet you here.
What the guys were getting at, is we have a few things in common.
Such as...

Mmmm.... men in gi's.... *drools*

And as for the lack of women training... I started a thread about it in general chat!
It infuriates me that for a physical activity that women should be able to do really well in, there is such a lack of them!!!! mad.gif
For example, I competed in the state finals of the NAS yesterday, and here in the ACT there were 6 women in the entirety of the adult divisions, whereas there were 30+ adult males.
And four of the women were from GKR.

Anyway.... *tears self away from rant..*

Hi Elle smile.gif

Welcome to the board. biggrin.gif Hangetsu as a fav kata is a bit unusual isn't it? A lot of people seem to hate it. wink.gif

Hi Mick - I am a strange one. I like kata where I am as firmly rooted to the floor as possible - jumps? I dont bloody think so! My ass will not defy gravity again in this lifetime.

I like the controlled nature of hangetsu. The breathing, the tension, and especially the bunkai for the last few moves - nasty stuff *evil grin*.

Goyle - almost came to Canberra for NAS on the weekend as whenever it is in Sydney it clashes with other stuff I have planned, but when it is Canberra or Coffs I am fine...one of these days I will get there I guess. Will be down your way this weekend for a bit of liver destruction though.

Everyone - thankyou for your kind welcome...
Mitten
Liver destruction? Here in Canberra? Never! tongue.gif Hiya Dragonelle welcome.gif
Goyle
A few of us tried to destruct our livers on saturday night.... I'm suprised other people couldn't smell it the next day. laugh.gif
Mitten
Hey! I only had two beers...
Goyle
That's two more than me... whistle.gif
Suzan
smile.gif hey all... soz i havent been on i lost the site and was busy wid skool and stuff...

wats new??
Dragonelle
Goyle and Kitten,

After a friday nightso huge I was unable to back up on teh saturday 2 weeks ago in Canberra - I can now highly recommend the jelly doughnut shots at the Kingston Hotel, the jugs of red bull & vodka (at the Kingo as well), and the handy walk to almost sober up to the irish pub somewhere up the road. They wouldnt let us in at the place next door to the irish pub - apparently I was pissed. Great sunset that morning - must drink less red bull next time!
Tom
Nice one Dragonelle!

Remember! Drink responsibly! ( Or just give the beer to Me, Mick and Matt and have coke instead smile.gif )

He he he... One of the door guys at the kingo is on our tournament team.. beerchug.gif

I've never actually been to the kingo, but the jelly shots sound intruiging.. maybe we should go and introduce them to our livers. biggrin.gif

Well, there's always round one next feb/march.. It would be nice to put a face to a few more names. cheekywink.gif
Tom
It`s a real pity we can't all get together and host our own seminar....... Maybe in the future when we`ve won the lottery smile.gif
Goyle
Now that's a fantastic idea, tom!!!!!!!

Hands up who's got a spare couple of hundred thousand dollars floating around.....
Mitten
We'll drag him out to a seniors class when he's over here, then haul him out afterwards to the pub to recover biggrin.gif (yes Goyle, this means you're coming too. One time wont hurt ya... much)
Goyle
Actually, I was thinking that a visit to canberra is not complete without experiencing Sensei Ben's class. ph34r.gif

And as Tom is not an instructor or on the tournament team............. Sensei Ben's class it will have to be!!! tongue.gif biggrin.gif cheekywink.gif
Mitten
But sensei Ben's class is fifth kyu and above, I wont be able to go! sob.gif am sure sensei Matt would let him show up for just one lil seniors class...
Goyle
Well tongue.gif

By april you should be nearing or at 5th kyu, anyway, so I'm standing strong for a Sensei Ben class, as oppossed to a boring seniors class I dont go to anyway.
Too many weird B+W's there, anyway wink.gif xpoke.gif

Besides, red hill is smaller, and more interesting... mad.gif
Mitten
I have to get to green belt first unsure.gif I have to work on my footing with kicks (getting them back without going loop-dee-loo at least) and kata (as always) and moving through stances.

Hrmm... well at least you can do the kicks, so if I can make red belt with mine, I'm sure you'll get green with no problems.. *Glares at Mitten* tongue.gif

And even if you're not quite at blue, well, I'm sure you can get lost and end up at Red Hill by mistake for just the _one_ class.. whistle.gif wink.gif
Mitten
Ya know, I kinda get the feeling you dont wanna go to a seniors class... tongue.gif
Goyle
Whatever makes you think that?

I just feel rather out of place at senior classes... like I'm not an instructor, so I shouldn't be there........ blink.gif
Dragonelle
Ola - the lurker is in the house.

Coming to Canberra again - from the 30th to the 5th...if anyone feels like a beer or 10 and a bar-room brawl let me know.
Tom
Goyle? Mitten? Ball is in your court here... I'm sure you can show Dragonelle a good time!
Matt
Yes - I believe Lake Burley Griffin is lovely at this time of year.

Well if today is anything to go by, the weather in Canberra seems nicer than Perth.

32 degrees as opposed to 23 degrees here.

What happened to summer?
beach.gif

Ah well sure it will be here soon enough, and then everyone will complain about the heat....
Goyle
Melting!!!

I'm melting!!!!!

38 degrees is the forecast for New Years Eve..... blink.gif
