It strange how i always end up back at this forum, its not that i leave but sometimes i see a interesting topic on one of the other 100 forums in the world.

I was on the other GKR forum the grey one not the pinky/red one. I noticed Whiteox the admin dude had started a B&W question. So i jumped in about 20 people had posted so cool. On the weekend i went to a class near where i live and talked to a BB who was leaving just as they were setting up, i noticed a B&W out front about to start the class. Having learnt from everyone here i wondered what kyu grade she was so i asked, the BB said instructor so i asked has she been teaching long. He then got very rude and asked me if i was training or leaving, so i left.

straight after i posted this i got a response from Psycho and we were all playing nice no slander etc but Whiteox closed the forum that he started?

maybe i wont go back there again.

Cheers

Welcome back.
Dont you know by now that instructor grades are sacrosanct? I wonder why they dont just forget gradings for instructors altogether until they are ready for shodan. That way they could honestly say they cant tell you biggrin.gif

Thanks deano, what worried me more was not that it happened but the forum i was on closed the thread before it could be discussed.

Hi Freek,

Jessie from the WO forum here. Not sure if you have headed in the right direction posting your question here.

By no means was WO closing the thread a shot at your or Psycho. The thing is, on our forum we have numerous threads with BW belts as the subject. By starting the thread that he did, Ox did not mean to start the same old debate, instead, think about something entirely different. In his eyes and in mine as well, the thread was turning into what every other GKR BW belt thread on our site has turned into - a bashing thread.

WO wasn't trying to stop people from having their say... but I'm sure that as you'll agree, there is more to karate than "bi***ing" about something that has been done to death many times before. If you were that concerned about it, you could have PMd WO or any of the other mods. We are happy to help.

It is fairly petty trying to spread animosity between the two forums, I have to say. The admin/mod staff on both boards believe in working together, not seperating divisions... We're all friends here.

Sorry about the misunderstanding. PM me if you have any questions.

Jess

I must admit the point was more that here i think Matt would have handled it better. And yes i realise there are hundreds of threads about B&W on different forums, but if Whiteox wants to start a topic with a quote he or she feels pushes there opinion they shouldnt close it if people dont agree or respond. But thank you for your feedback.

cheers

I saw that one Freek but I didn't reply. I was actually having a private bet with myself that the thread would be closed before the week was out. I lost but only because it took much less than that.

The reason I didn't reply is that I'm sick of pointing out the same obvious faults to people who will not listen. If we could all just admit that there is something wrong with the BW sensei system (nothing personal against the people), then we'd all get along a lot better. dance.gif

Well naturally our forum is the best!

What people tend to forget is that while a forum might be a public space where people can air their views, at the end of the day the bloke (or sheila) who pays the bills gets to make the rules.

Vive la difference!

One of the best things about this forum is the lack of thread closures. biggrin.gif

Sure we may go off topic sometimes, or bring up the same old things, but you can always state your oppinion by NOT saying anything.
Eventually people will tire of debating, and the conversation will naturally come to an end.

Forum loyalties are usually exhibited by a persons number of posts. Where they feel the most comfortable to speak, is usually where most of their posts are made. thumb.gif

You're not joining the dark side are you freek? wink.gif xpoke.gif tongue.gif

Btw, what class/day did you go to? The BB sensei who takes saturday classes at Jerrabomberra is one of the nicest people I have ever met, so it seems strange that he would behave like that.... scratchy.gif

Dont worry it wasnt Jerra, i have met James and he seems like a nice guy.

I must admit i wouldnt ever leave my current style/dojo but i have thought about doing some extra nights each week (as we dont have the profileration of dojo's you guys do) so it would be mainly for fitness, maybe with you guys. I guess i know what i need from the classes so im not as concerned about the whole package. Plus we are encouraged to do complementing styles, ie i spent quite a bit of time doing Judo to help with my ground work.

My other choice is to open my own school but it seems ironic on this thread but i dont think i have enough experience yet. Probably when im closer to my nidan i will think more about it.

The big question is would you guys let me do two styles, i know i would have no problems from my side.

Agree there are some good fitness classes out there. I did two styles for the last three years I trained/taught, but no-one really knew about it. Its only a problem if you are an instructor and your rm has an issue with it. I really dont think mine would have cared to be honest, and probably would have actually been quite interested. I just preferred to keep my worlds separate.
The styles were sufficiently different so as not to interfere with each other, but since doing another karate style I have found the slight variations to be somewhat frustrating.

Just have your refusal ready for when the time comes to be shangheid wink.gif

Um.... *tries to think of what classes are sweat fests..*

Mitten might have more of an idea than me, seeing she's a southsider, and I'm a northsider...

Canberra has a north and south? tongue.gif
I think they only really complain bout cross training here if you're actually teaching *shrug*.

I think the most consistently "sweaty" class would be Sensei Ben's monday belconnen class. That's at the Senior Citizen's club on Chandler Street Monday 6.00pm - 7.30 pm. Goyle goes there and I try to get up there bout once a month. He loves kicks and it shows rolleyes.gif to be honest I'd give my right leg to be able kick half as good tongue.gif

My classes have a lot of white and yellow belts, plus kids, in them so they're not always as physically strenous. Wednesday Woden (Senior Citizens Club Cnr Corrina St & Melrose Dr, 6.00pm -7.30pm) is another sensei James class that's pretty good.

Latham Tuesday (Latham Primary School O'Loughlen St 6.00pm - 7.30pm) was pretty good when I went, but that was bout eight months ago now so they may have changed senseis...

Okay, this maybe easier:
Classes are held (from the timetable I have, which is the most recent one I've got):
Belconnen
O'Connor
Melba
Charnwood
Nicholls
Palmerston
Latham
Woden
Red Hill
Kambah East & Kambah West
Weston
Goulbourn North & Goulbourn South
Cooma
Calwell
Gowrie
Conder
Queanbeyan
Jerrabomberra

Lemme know which ones are closest to you and I'll pm you the times and dojos if you want smile.gif

Sensei Ben is a nidan - which might make you feel more comfortable with a higher ranking instructor and all, etc....
His classes cover basic strikes/blocks/kicks in the first half, and then we move on to combo's/kata/occaisonal kumite after that.

Early classes tend to have lots of kids in them... later classes are often better where a double is on offer.

What classes have you tried so far, and we'll try to give you a hand in the proper direction. biggrin.gif
