Last night the neighbours had a party...after several hours of drinking the karaoke came out...
what on earth possessess people to wail out "Sweet Home Alabama" or worse - "Unchained Melody" in a slurred out of pitch voice at top volume? (next time I end up in that situation PLEASE hold me back before I try and belt out anything - I couldnt carry a tune in a bucket! biggrin.gif)

Consider yourself lucky Matt that they are your neighbours with about 4 houses between you and them.

My bedroom overlooks their patio area so I got the full brunt of it.

I must say though however did perform "unchained Melody" did a rather good job smile.gif

What does karaoke actually mean?

We all know (or should) that kara means empty. Maybe 'oke' means head? or mind?

I'm sure someone will spoil this by giving the proper meaning, but it's fun to make a few guesses in the meantime.

Hi folks

空オケ 【からオケ】 (n) karaoke (singing to taped accompaniment)

I have also seen it writen in katakana

BTW after a few beers, a few more sake... it starts to sound good and while I can't sing to save myself, my version of 'Love me tender' is a real hit with my female students, we went to one last Christmas and sensei got a bit drunk tongue.gif

I love going out to parties and after the adults have a few drinks the songs start to come out. It's hilarious and good fun coz you can just join in in parts/songs you know and even if u can't sing no one cares.
