Well after years of abusing each other (a few losses each didnt hurt either Im sure) the two have decided to meet and slug it out.

Did the constant bickering finally push Green to go for revenge?

Did Mundine decide to go into retirement just to come out of it for this?

Was the delay just a little too long and the public lost interest?

Anyway - the biggest hyped and surely most expensive pay-per-view event Australias ever seen is coming to pay-even-more-than-pay-tv in the very near future.....

Who's your money on??
warrick_dawes
Mundine should be renamed "The Mouth" ...

Gave up a team sport because he couldn't stand losing when he thought he was doing a great job - had to rely on others!

Continues to run away when he realises he can't win on his own performance.

Just don't tell him I said that, OK?
Goyle
Didn't he used to play football? dunno.gif

You would think he would have lost enough brain cells from that, without resorting to boxing.......
Mel
I don't think the guy would have had too many brain cells to start with.

Sorry am not a big fan of Mundine!!
russkris
When is this going to happen?
Matt
Only thing thats happened so far is Green has agreed to it, after previously dismissing approaches from Mundines camp.

I think Mundine's in deep ****
rocket73
sure mundine has said some stupid things but I really respect him as an athlete. The guy is a freak. He had a $600,000 a year contract to play rugby league, played state of origin one of the toughest sporting events in the world, won a world title against antwoin eccles a quality fighter, and the Sydnet Kings have been chasing him to play basketball. He has been doing all this while Danny Green has done nothing but lift his own profile by bagging the guy. Danny is a great fighter and I like tha guy but he has'nt acheived half of what Mundine has.
Matt
Well its actually happening!
2 million dollar purse (why the HELL do boxers fight for a 'purse'??) and approval has been sought from the WBA for it to be a title eliminator. Greens camp is asking the WBC if it will figure in his attempts to rematch Marcus Beyer for that organisations belt.

Green is ranked 2 in the WBC, unranked in the WBA
Mundine is 18 in the WBC.
Boxing - what a mess

Melbournes Docklands stadium (okay okay Telstra-bloody-dome) is likely to be the venue, especially as Melbourne based AFL football clubs havent shown up for a finals game in 5 years tongue.gif

Mundine pelted with bottles
By Grantlea Kieza
December 12, 2005

DANNY Green scored his first victory over Anthony Mundine last night when The Man had to run to his dressing room under a shower of beer cans from fight fans in Perth.

Mundine looked devastating stopping New Zealand's Rico Chong Nee in three rounds after Green had outpointed Mexican light-heavyweight champ Kirino Garcia on the undercard.

Green was in total control of Garcia then continued as the ringmaster, whipping the crowd into a frenzy of boos for arch-rival Mundine.

In scenes worthy of the World Wrestling Federation, Green did his best PT Barnham impression by seizing the microphone after his fight and telling his hometown faithful to give Mundine the kind of reception he deserved.

A crowd of 5500 booed and jeered Mundine on the way into the ring and pelted him with beer cans on the way out.

Green won a 10-round decision over the 37-year-old Garcia, who has seen better days but still had enough toughness and ring smarts to survive a 10-round pounding at the Challenge Stadium.

Mundine, who demanded to be the main event for last night's promotion, was like lightning against Chong Nee, the Samoan-born tattoo artist, painting his face with punches.

The fight was stopped on the bell to end round three after Mundine dropped the Kiwi with three vicious rights, the type he says will rock Green all night.

As time goes on I am feeling more confident that Mundine could win this fight. Green is having a very poor preparation, this cant be good for him.

He has postponed the fight because of his back injury.

Beat me to it Rocket smile.gif

I'm afraid its not looking too good for the Green camp.

And of course, 'The Mouth' couldnt resist:

QUOTE
"Each to their own. You're going to get yours boy - don't worry about that," Mundine told the Nine Network after hearing the news.

"I had a back spasm yesterday. You fight through these things. Is he a warrior or a wuss?"

Yes, but could this all just be a strategy on the part of Green's camp?

I am sticking with the Perth boy to wipe the floor witn Mundine tongue.gif

Well full credit to Mundine - he had seriously studied Greens technique and outboxed him the whole way. Green never changed his 'knock-the-bugger-out' approach which led to his points defeat. Congratulations to mundine... except for the way he carried on.

Green was magnanimous in defeat , congratulating Mundine and declaring he was fully fit for the fight making no excuses at all, adding kudos to the victory.

Mundine flipped the bird to sections of the crowd, boasted how he was the better man, said how he had been sick a few weeks ago ('but no-one knew that') yet still won, then paraded around like a prima donna. My respect for his boxing has increased a lot, but my respect for the man has sunk to new depths. Great fight nonetheless.

oh - and did anyone see the hilarious fight with John Hapoate beforehand roflmao.gif

and sorry to say but I was the first of the two responses to the poll saying mundine would win...

I have always rated Choc as an athlete and I have even more respect for him now. Last nights fight was a world class show fom mundine and if he fights like that against Kessler he will win the title. When he wins the title he should retire then sign a contract with the Australian Rugby Union, play for the Wallabies, when he has done that he should then be able to sqeeze in a couple of years in the nba playing basketball. Then he will be one of the greatest athletes australia has seen.

Go Choc

He's not as good as he or his publicist are telling everyone. Im finally convinced he's a boxer after a very good display, but he seems to think he's Ali. Certainly acting like it....

Needs to get over himself. Arrogant git.
